As a contemporary jewellery designer, Ruotong Gao regards it as a way to express thoughts and as a vehicle for storing memory, so she likes to remodel old objects to perpetuate the new spirit. In addition, she imbues her ideas into jewelleries, dissecting herself as she makes them which enables her works to communicate with herself and others, both the story of the jewellery and the influence of the wearer.
For example, in her work < Journey in 18 Years>, Gao added the pillow towel that has been with her for 18 years to it, sealing all the ups and downs that she has experienced in her 18 years alone at home in the small pillow towel. Another example is in the< Catch a moment>, she created a ring that can make a noise when worn. The wearer can play with it, using hand or body movements to toss and drop coins from the ring and brooch and creating a noise and shifting weight, so that the jewellery becomes interactive, giving the wearer an interesting and engaging experience.
While in her latest work <Rebirth>, she reproduced the traditional embroidery pieces she had collected by using contemporary twining and created a series of works that brings the old embroidery pieces back into our life. In this series, she not only retained the traditional embroidery technique, but also added copper wire winding and modern acrylic beads to make the jewellery more unique and livelier. This approach of passing on the classics while adding modern elements makes the traditional objects more vivid.
It is the collision between the tradition and the modern and the endless imagination that enable Ruotong Gao to keep creating new designs.

在她所制作的作品中,《journey in 18 years》里,她將一直陪伴她18年的枕巾加入了作品中,將她在十八年經(jīng)常獨(dú)自在家所經(jīng)歷的酸甜苦辣割舍封存在了這一塊枕巾中。而在作品《Catch a moment》中,她制作了佩戴時(shí)可以產(chǎn)生響聲的戒指,佩戴者可以把玩,利用手部或身體的運(yùn)動(dòng)將戒指和胸針上的錢(qián)幣拋起掉落,產(chǎn)生響聲和重量轉(zhuǎn)換,以此來(lái)讓一件首飾與佩戴者產(chǎn)生了互動(dòng),讓佩戴者擁有了佩戴的體驗(yàn)感和趣味性。
而她最新的作品《Rebirth》中,她將收集來(lái)的傳統(tǒng)繡片利用當(dāng)代繞線的方式進(jìn)行了重生再造。這個(gè)系列使老繡片重新回到了人們身上去佩戴和傳承,這個(gè)系列的作品不僅延續(xù)了傳統(tǒng)的刺繡工藝,還加入了銅線繞線和現(xiàn)代亞克力珠串使它們變得新穎而且立體了起來(lái),這樣的做法得以讓人們?cè)趥鞒薪?jīng)典的同時(shí)加入了現(xiàn)代元素,使傳統(tǒng)的物件變得更加生動(dòng)。
